EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT

  • My main learning in this unit is about the techniques named "Thinking Routines" which I've never heard about . I consider them a very useful strategies to get our pupils involved on learning due to they have to take an active part in the process from the beggining. The fact that they have to think and, above all, support their thougt reasoning  about what they are expected to do implies foster a  methodologic way to act as well as it prevents irrational answers,  otherwise so usual in their answers.
  •  What I find more interesting is the wide range of possibilities, different templates and patterns  are provided for you to use and the easy that results to adpat them to your own goals and situation. I realized that the useful of these techniques, better said tools, extends to the whole learning of the core. You just have to choose which one is the adequate in each case and objective. It is also remarkable the fact that Thinking Routines give a relevant role to the time to think instead act, I think this strategies give the students the chance to do a metacognitive process that lead them to find a system applicable to every aspect of their study and even their life. Last but not least, I draw your atention to the noticeable aspect of social inclusion that keep in their development since most of the different Routines include sharing the though of peers and discusion about the personal conclusions producing a collaborartive learning and a more confidence among the mates.
  • I'm determined to investigate more about this tools, specially to adapt the different proposal I've found, to improve and make easier my experience and the students' in any subject. 
  • For the assessment I'd like to share my upset wiht the fact that the overcrowded classrooms impede the teacher bring into real the purpose of evaluate their pupils in the different ways. That's why it is not new to me using the peers assessment and the self-assessment. Moreover, I always assess my pupils individually and in their groups, although that implies a lot of time and strategies because part of the evaluation is by observation,  specially oral language, which is difficult if you can't divide the classroom. That's why personally I'd rather evaluate the portfolio and the other evidences. However, I'm convinced in CLIL communication abilities must be main subject of evaluation although less than the core subject.
