DIGITAL PORTFOLIO. MODULE 4: ICT IN CLIL

REFLECTION ABOUT MODULE 4

What I learnt among other aspects is CLIL and ICT are strategic  concepts that should be work together. Indeed, nowadays most of the resources and tools are on the net or though being off line resources they are digital. Therefore we should be aware that teachers training about ICT is the point for effective integration of the education into the actual life of their students. Undoubtedly English  is the language of the Internet so  to master it must be preferential, but as a communicative way, that is, the student should be able to research through the net and convey it in order to communicate, not need lots of grammar just to be understandable.

I learnt this while working with my pupils, they are living in a digital connected world, so teachers have to go there instead to expect they come to the past. I've known teachers afraid of new tools, new approaches, they think books and boards are as effective as ever looking down on ICT and its indisputable advantges, not just the obvious pragmatic ones but the advantatge of create environments of learning motivators that invite the student to feel comfortable, safe and able to participate, in few words. an environment that speaks their own language: ICT. English language teachers have their best assistent in ICT, in the net there are plenty of resources; tools, information, a lot of webs offers self-correct exercises for the pupils to be more autonomous and to work from everywhere. The classroom is where the participants are, it's time to open the classroom. and technologies of communication and information bring that into real.

Year after year I fight to break the wall that some of my workmates find before them when they realize that a new ICT tool has appeared in their roads. However, on my view this is the best of the ICT, the endless renewation of the resources, moreover, the opportunity to participate on creating these resources. My spirited defense of the ICT in classroom finds sometimes impregnables obstacles because people of the staff stucks in the past methods. I see as the school invests money in books instead of tablets, PC, phones, and other digital devices; not even  invests time searching for digital free resources that would ease  the job of the teachers and would improve the involvement and the results of their students.

I don't mean to burn the books, just revise the teacher's role. Time when teacher were the actor on the stage conveying wisdom through the speech is already dead. Currently teacher should be provider of resources that put the pupil in the best situation to learn, to guide them, to propose them, to challenge them: the location of the teacher isn't the centre of the process. but just to be alongside their students throughout the process of learning.

AS A FINAL REFLECT ABOUT THE COURSE:

If you ask me 3 things I've learnt in it:

1-CLIL is above all communication, this is the priority, which make it different from the English as a language learning content of the core.
2-CLIL should be most oral language because almost ninety percent of actual communication is oral.
CLIL
3-CLIL aproach has got its better allied in ICT because the latter is flexible, easy to find and use, acquirable, uses all kind of communication and is adaptable to every subject of the core which is the goal of CLIL too.

For 2 things I will do in my lessons:

1- I think is a good practice to do KWOL chart; saves time and prevent mistakes and improvisations
2- I've found that THINKING ROUTINES might be really helpful from now on.

About continue learning not just one:

Obviously we teachers should continue our training about all aspects of our job. In this effect I'll continue investigating about CLIL in every aspect that turns up in my everyday.
